Treatment for Eczema

The treatment you need for your eczema depends partly on how severe your eczema is, and also on which treatment your skin responds to. In mild cases, simply keeping the skin well moisturised can control eczema. Most cases however need more specific treatment, and your doctor will prescribe the most appropriate treatment for your condition. Please see our page on therapies and side-effects.

There is also a range of alternative therapies available, although their effectiveness has not been as well checked out as licensed medicines available on prescription.

Things to consider before you see your doctor
  • Can you identify any triggers of your eczema?
  • Make a note of your symptoms, and how long they have lasted
  • Have you tried any treatments already?
  • Would you describe your eczema as mild, moderate or severe?
  • Which parts of your body are affected?
  • What is the impact of your eczema on your everyday life?
